What It Does
I've been reading mostly books lately, trying to dig deeper into history and spend reading time well on subjects that shape my thinking. I wanted an app that presented something valuable to read each day which upon time spent would never be wasted. I didn't want any gamification, reminders, notifications or any contribution to our perpetual distraction. So here it is, one essay a day there and gone hopefully to shape one's thinking usefully.
How it works
I am attempting to curate a year's worth of interesting essays, excerpts or speeches and there would be on on the app per day. No queue of content you missed, no notifications, just something interesting to read intentionally. I have added a highlighting layer and would like to add an AI-assisted annotation layer to provide useful historical context and supplementary content to facilitate understanding and internalizing sometimes difficult works.

- Built with: Python/FastAPI backend serving a git-tracked Markdown corpus directly — essays/*.md frontmatter is the source of truth, annotations written back into the file rather than a database, with a today.md pointer file selecting the daily essay; SwiftUI/iOS 17 client (xcodegen-generated project) with a token-gated admin mode for select-to-annotate editing in place.
- Runs as Docker containers on the VPS behind Caddy, with the editorial corpus bind-mounted as a separately versioned repo; SQLite is kept only as an empty shell for future per-device state.
